Henderson Spur Hike

Not many trails can compete with the Henderson Spur Hike. Low effort, high reward, this adventure will guide you up to a stunning overlook of the Continental Divide. Adventurous children and novice hikers alike will be able to navigate the terrain, but it is worth noting there are steep sections. Get your steps in as you ascend the wooded path to Berthoud Pass.

Begin your journey up the Henderson Spur Trail from the Henderson Mine Parking Lot. Take the route signposted “Trail”. Track the Henderson Spur Trail from the north end of the parking lot. The path will guide you below the tree shade. Ascend the woodland route and navigate a switchback. Hike the ridge east for a few clicks before it guides you through another set of switchbacks. Maneuver the winding path as it becomes increasingly exposed. Soon, you will summit Berthoud Pass.

You will meet your turnaround point when the Henderson Spur Trail intersects with the Berthoud Pass West Trail. Enjoy the 360-degree panoramic vistas from atop the pass and revel in the grandeur of the Continental Divide. Take a break, explore the pass, then retrace your steps back down the trail to the parking lot.
