Vesper Peak Trail is a 7.6mi moderately trafficked out and back hike in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest that is rated as hard. This hike offers everything you’d want in a summit, with soaring views in all directions and just enough challenge to get there. Strong intermediate hikers should be able to complete this trail. There is some light scrambling to reach the top, along with a very rocky trail in places, but it’s all worth it when you see the view.

This hike is out of the shade for a long stretch, so bring lots of water and sunscreen. Poles are a help if you have them.

Vesper Peak Trail Description

Vesper Peak Trail delivers jaw-dropping summit views, with a gem-blue lake nestled in a mountain valley and more mountaintops than you can count. The hike requires some careful footing and solid climbing, but it’s a fantastic outing, especially on a clear day. Poles, lots of water, and some sunscreen are all recommended for this hike. There is some scrambling required to reach the summit, but it’s not too technical or intimidating.

The hike begins from the end of the road, crossing two streams before beginning to switchback. The footing is rocky for much of the path, so watch your step and take it slow if you need to. Hugging the creek, you’ll straighten out and keep heading up.

Just after the creek beside you peters out, you’ll begin to switchback more aggressively. You’ll pass Lake Elan on the right, which is your last source of water on the trail.

The trail becomes increasingly rocky as you approach the summit, and there is a bit of scrambling to be done to conquer the mountain. Once on top, you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous 360-degree views. Look down on the deep blue lake with Sperry Peak behind it, the bigger Copper Lake to the northwest, and the endless sea of mountains beyond.
When you’re ready, carefully descend the same way you came up.
