The Sandsend and Whitby via West Cliff Beach Walk is a pleasant adventure on the eastern edge of North York Moors National Park that will produce some stunning views of the North Sea. While out walking the trail, you will stroll along the water’s edge towards Whitby, taking in the beautifully scenic seaside views in addition to those of the historic Whitby Abbey in the distance. This is a fantastic walking route that can be completed at as leisurely a pace as you please.

Getting there

While long and adventurous treks across the moorlands of the interior are always fun, sometimes you just want a more laid back and leisurely walking experience that will provide some relaxation and stunning views. If that is the type of walk that you are looking for, you will want to check out the Sandsend and Whitby via West Cliff Beach Walk.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way along the beach in a southeastern direction, relaxing in the seaside atmosphere as you work towards Whitby. Here, you will experience some amazing views looking out across the North Sea, as well as the historic 7th Century Whitby Abbey to the southeast that was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. After reaching the terminus of the trail at the Whitby beach huts, simply turn back to relive the experience all over again on the return to the trailhead where you started.
