Kilburn White Horse and Sutton Bank Walk

Featuring interesting landmarks and stunning views that sweep across North York Moors National PArk, the Kilburn White Horse and Sutton Bank Walk is an exceptional journey that should definitely make it onto your list. Although the route isn’t overly challenging, there is a bit of a steep climb towards the beginning of the walk that you should take into consideration before setting out.

From the car park, you will make your way to the northeast and immediately begin climbing up the steep hillside along the famous Kilburn White Horse. This famous image that was carved into the hillside dates back to 1857 and is said to be the largest and most northerly of England’s hill carvings. From here, you will continue on to the north while working your way around the edge of an airfield before arriving at the viewpoint known as “The Finest View in England”.

After taking in the sweeping views across the picturesque North Yorkshire landscape, you will make your way along the forest edge of the escarpment and loop around to the southeast across the open countryside. Once you have passed by the Sutton Bank visitor centre, you can simply follow your initial route past the airfield and Kilburn White Horse to return to the car park.
