High Moors over Masham Walk Description

Sweeping views across the picturesque terrain of Yorkshire Dales National Park await on the High Moors over Masham Walk. This lovely adventure does feature a bit of uphill walking; however, it follows excellent walking paths that have been laid out for gamekeepers, making them perfectly suitable for a fun family adventure out on the moor.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the southwest along the edge of the Leighton Reservoir, before crossing the dam wall of the Roundhill Reservoir and skirting around the edge of that body of water. From here, you will climb uphill across the rugged terrain of the moor until you arrive at a plateau with a commanding view of the surrounding area, including Upper Nidderdale and the Vale of York.

Following the trail as it loops back around to the east, you will gradually begin to make your way back downhill while taking in some amazing views over the reservoirs and Masham in the distance. Reaching the edge of the water, you will have arrived back at the trailhead where you began your walk.
