The Willingdon Beach Trail is a 2.7mi out-and-back hiking route in Powell River that passes through the forest and runs parallel to a beach along the Strait of Georgia. With relatively flat terrain, easy-to-navigate paths, and some old logging equipment at the side of the trail, this hike is the perfect opportunity to get out and explore the outdoors with the family. Keep an eye out near the end of the trail, as hikers are often able to spot sea lions lounging around by the water’s edge.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Willingdon Beach Trail from Powell River, head north on Marine Avenue for 0.7mi and turn left to enter into the parking area.

Hiking the Willingdon Beach Trail is the perfect family-friendly adventure in the Powell River area due to the amazing trails, beautiful scenery, and opportunity to learn about the historic logging operations in the area. Old relics from the historic logging industry can be found scattered along the trail and offer both children and adults alike the chance to explore and learn something new. Setting out from the trailhead, follow the path as it leads into the forest to the north and runs parallel to the beach. Along the hike, you will have some intermittent views that stretch across the sand and out onto the blue water of the Strait of Georgia. Towards the end of the trail, you will come to Second Beach, an area where hikers are often able to spot sea lions relaxing along the Sunshine Coast. For an extra special hike, try timing your excursion for the evening to watch an amazing sunset light up the shimmering water.
