Washburn Trail Description

Hike the Washburn Trail through an enchanting pine forest abundant with wildflowers. Connecting the Mariposa Grove Welcome Center and the trailhead, this is a highly-trafficked route. Note: the path is single-track, so beware of passers-by! Additionally, microspikes or snowshoes are necessary in the winter months, as the terrain is often snow-packed and slippery! Pack plenty of water and snacks, especially if you plan on exploring the grove further. Yosemite National Park charges an entrance fee; check out the NPS website for additional information.

Embark on your adventure along the Washburn Trail from the Mariposa Welcome Center. From here, the path will immediately begin to climb south through mixed pine forests. In the summer months, the route will reward you with sights of vibrant water flowers. Eventually, the path will redirect you east. As you near the trail’s end you will hear a seasonal snowmelt stream and, if you have good eyesight, you will be able to see the sequoias in the distance.

Once you reach the shuttle stop you will have arrived at your turnaround point. We encourage you to head up into the grove and explore the ancient sequoias that adorn the terrain. When you are ready to head back, retrace your footing along the route back to the trailhead.
