The Cascade Creek Trail is a great adventure atop Yosemite Valley’s northern rim that boasts breaking views of the lush wilderness. Hike through mixed pine forests and meadowlands that are abundant with wildflowers as you wander the old valley access road. We love this immersive hike, and you will too!

Cascade Creek Trail Description

The Cascade Creek Trail is a wonderful day-hike that would make an awesome addition to any explorers’ Yosemite itinerary. Travel deep into the wilderness and admire the diversity of the area’s flora and fauna as you wander. Take note that it is important to be mindful of wildlife along this trail—be bear aware! Sections of the route are quite steep, so take your time and mind your footing. The National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional details.

Setting out from the Tamarack Flat Campground, the Cascade Creek Trail follows the southernmost route signposted for Old Big Oak Flat Road. Follow this path southeast through the mixed pine forests and over Tamarack Creek. The trail will gently descend before briefly plateauing. Enjoy the flat terrain and the sights of the granite outcrops, before beginning your steep descent to Coyote Creek.

Take some time to enjoy the charming cascades of Coyote Creek, before reaching the intersection with Cascade Creek. Enjoy the sounds of the converging cascades and the views of Yosemite Creek through the tree breaks. Admire the scenery and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
