Tamarack Flat to Yosemite Valley Hike Description

There is nothing better than a one-way hike in our opinion, as you are rewarded with new views and scenery every step of the way. The Tamarack Flat to Yosemite Valley Hike is a demanding, but an incredibly beautiful adventure that exhibits wonderful views of El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome. Be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks to stay fueled along this adventure. Additionally, we strongly suggest bringing along the trail GPS, and don’t forget to arrange for pickup or leave a vehicle at the trail’s end! Note: Yosemite National Park charges an entrance fee, refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Embark on your adventure along the Tamarack Flat to Yosemite Valley Trail from Tamarack Flat Campground. Setting out from there, head east along the Old Big Oak Flat Road, and at the next intersection, keep left onto an El Capitan Trail. Head east to the summit of El Capitan, reveling in the vertigo-inducing sights of the valley below. Continue hiking east over to Eagle Peak, taking a quick detour out to the overlook point.

Now heading north through the meadowlands, you will soon be delivered to the top of Yosemite Falls. Admire the breathtaking vistas of the famous cascades, then track the Upper Yosemite Falls Trail south down a set of never-ending switchbacks. Follow this path all the way down to the valley floor and the Upper Yosemite Trailhead in Camp 4, marking the end of your adventure.
