The walk from Reeth to Healaugh is a fun journey in the Yorkshire Dales that offers scenic views and can be enjoyed by the entire family. While out walking the trail, you will leave the town of Reeth behind and climb uphill for views across Swaledale before arriving in the village of Healaugh. There is a small amount of uphill walking on this route but it is manageable for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.

Getting there

To reach the Reeth to Healaugh Walk trailhead from Richmond, drive to the west along Victoria Road for 5.0mi and bear right onto B6270. Follow this for another 5.0mi, making a right to continue on for 0.9mi. You will find the car park on the left.

Reeth to Healaugh Walk Description

If the aim of your walk is to take in the natural beauty of Swaledale and get a bit of good exercise in the process, then the Reeth to Healaugh Walk is a great option to do so. With picturesque views across the charming valley and a good variety of terrain that includes open fields, rugged moors, and peaceful riverside settings, there will be no shortage of memories made along this route.

Setting out from the trailhead in Reeth, you will head to the west along the road before climbing up the hillside to the northwest. While on this portion of the trail, you will traverse picturesque fields and reach the edge of the moor before descending the somewhat steep hillside into the village of Healaugh. After meandering through the village streets, continue to the southwest along the road to eventually cross over the River Swale.

From the opposite bank, you will turn to the east and walk along Swale Hall Lane while taking in the views of the surrounding moor and High Harker Hill on your right. After passing the Church of St Andrews in Grinton, you will once again cross over the River Swale and make your way to the northwest on the return to the trailhead in Reeth.
