Aysgarth and West Burton Falls Walk

The Aysgarth and West Burton Falls Walk is a great walk; however, some areas do have short but steep climbs, ensuring that you are prepared with appropriate footwear. In addition, some places can be inaccessible on this route, so the walk may be a little bit longer than anticipated as you follow another path.

This path is filled with natural beauty as you walk along the river and follow it to the Aysgarth Falls. As you continue along the path, more cascading waterfalls can be seen. There is also an abundance of sheep along this path that you can watch graze in the fields.

Beginning at the car park in the Aysgarth Village, follow the path through the fields that lead to St Andrew’s Church. The area surrounding the church is a wonderful viewing point to see the River Ure. Walking along the path in the churchyard, you will head left to Yore Bridge. When you get to this bridge, take a moment to look at the amazing views of the High Falls. These falls are one of the larger ones along this path and are a magnificent sight. These falls are the first of three that descend and are known as the Aysgarth Falls.

Returning to the main path, you will walk above the river, where you will pass Middle Force and Lower Force falls. Although smaller, they are still an amazing sight. After you take in the picturesque setting, continue walking along to the riverbank which leads to Hestholme Bridge, cross this and step into the beautiful countryside. You will come to West Burton, a quaint village that holds its charm from years ago. The Aysgarth Falls lie on the edge of the village, so this is a perfect spot to stop and take some amazing photographs.

As you continue on the path, you will wander through multiple fields that can be boggy after heavy rain. You will also begin to ascend up the hill, where you can explore expansive views of the valley to West Burton.

Moving along the path, you will follow the well-worn route, and you will come back to the car park where you began, as this is a circuit walk.
