North Slope and Popo Agie Nature Trail Loop

Hiking the North Slope and Popo Agie Nature Trail Loop affords anyone a good time. This lovely footpath meanders along the lazy river, boasting great views of the craggy canyon and distant sights of the Wind River Mountains. While most people visit the area to see The Sinks, this trail is worth a trip in and of itself. Note this area is abundant with wildlife, including bears. Make sure at least one person in your group carries a can of bear spray in the instance of an unlikely encounter.

Your adventure begins from the trailhead in the Popo Agie Campground. From here, you will cross a fun suspension bridge over the Middle Popo Agie River. After crossing the river, you will confront an intersection; turn left here onto the North Slope Trail. Now tracking east, the path will briefly run parallel to the river before climbing further up the slope to another junction. Veer right here, and you will be diverted onto the Popo Agie Nature Trail.

Hike this route southwest, then jump off the beaten path and merge onto the Catalyst Trail. Loop around this path and back along the riverbank. Again you will hop off the beaten path, reconnecting with the North Slope Trail before crossing back over to the campground.
