Limestone Mountain Loop Hike Description
The Limestone Mountain Hike is an epic adventure that explores lush forests and vast meadows in addition to the craggy limestone outcroppings that protrude from the landscape. Shared with bikers, off-roaders, and horseback riders, this route sees all kinds of traffic, so make sure you are mindful of passers-by as you wander. As much of the path is exposed, be sure to wear SPF and sun protection to avoid over-exposure. Note the path is not well signposted, so make sure to download the trail GPS before departure.
Embark on your adventure from the trailhead off Limestone Mountain Road. Setting out from here, the trail wanders south through mixed-pine forests often abundant with wildlife, including deer, elk, and bears. Eventually, you will confront an intersection, veer right here, and the path will head northwest along the base of a limestone ridge. Weaving through meadows and forestlands, you will be granted distant views of the snow-capped Winds in the distance. Using the trail GPS, the path will redirect you south, passing an overlook of the Upper Creek Reservoir before diverting north again.
Enjoy the beauty of the encompassing environment and the sounds of the gurgling water in the seasonal streams that bisect the woodlands. Ultimately, the path will deliver you back to the junction. From here, track north, retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
