The Toketee Falls Hike is a great outdoor excursion in Oregon that will take you to a stunning waterfall in no time. While out on the trail, you will descend alongside the banks of the North Umpqua River, eventually arriving at the 113ft tall Toketee Falls. Hikers should take note that while this trail is easy, there is a steep drop to get down to the waterfall, making it unsuitable for less mobile travelers.

Toketee Falls Hike Description:

The Toketee Falls Hike is a great family-friendly adventure in Umpqua National Forest; however, the easy nature of the route and beautiful views make it extremely popular. You will need to arrive early if you want to secure parking. Additionally, those looking to get up close and personal with the falls will need to descend a nearly vertical route with ropes. Be sure to wear proper hiking boots and exercise all precautions if you plan on doing so.

Even though the final portion of the hike to reach the base of the falls is a challenge, if you are able to navigate it you will be able to experience the breathtaking sight of Toketee Falls. For those who don’t want to undertake such an arduous climb, the views from the vantage point are also scenic, and are more than enough reason to explore this trail.

Setting out from the parking area, you will make your way to the west and by the restroom facilities. Following the trail through the forest, you will be hiking along the edge of the North Umpqua River and will enjoy some great views overlooking the rushing water.

Along the hike you will descend several stairs through the forest, before quickly arriving at a viewpoint looking out onto the falls. The scenery here is pretty nice, and it is the spot where most people will turn back around; however, if you want to get the real Toketee Falls experience, you will need to navigate a fairly steep drop to reach the base of the falls.

To the left of the lookout, you will find a hole cut out in the fence that will enable you to descend to the falls. Take note that this is a tough route that will require scrambling, climbing, and descent with ropes. After navigating this tricky path – if you can even call it that – you can take in the natural beauty of Toketee Falls and even swim in the chilly waters of the pool below.

Once you have spent some time exploring the area, you will need to climb back up along the same route. Following the same path from earlier in your hike, you will eventually return to the parking area having completed the Toketee Falls Hike.
