The hike to Jean lake and Hell’s Kitchen is a low-traffic trail in the western Uintas. This hike is rugged and gets increasingly challenging the further you go. Route-finding skills and a sense of adventure are essential on this hike. We strongly recommend downloading or printing a map of this trail before heading out and bringing along a GPS unit if you have it. If you are looking for a fun adventure in a beautiful, wild section of the western Uitnas, this trail is the perfect place for you.
From the Ledgefork Campground, head southeast along the well-marked Smith and Morehouse Trail. You will see a cairn marking the start of a trail to your left approximately a mile in. Follow this trail as it crosses over Smith and Morehouse Creek and continues west. Keep an eye out for the cairns and flagging tape that mark the trail as it continues up to Jean Lake.
Take a well-deserved rest at Jean lake and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Utah wilderness before heading back to the Ledgefork Campground the way you came.
