Rillito River Path: North Swan to North Dodge Description

The walk from North Swan Road to North Dodge Boulevard on the Rillito River Path is a fantastic way to get some fresh air without needing to leave Tucson. This multi-use pathway hugs the river as it meanders through the city, and this portion of the pathway is flat and short enough for walkers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy. It’s also paved, so hikers with strollers, bikers, or wheelchairs can also make use of it.

This guide details one section of the Rillito River Path, but you can certainly go further if you’d like. There are lots of access points for the path throughout its length. Even though this is an easy stroll, remember to bring water with you and wear sun protection. A morning walk before the heat of the day is usually most enjoyable.

From the trailhead near N Starr Road, you’ll take the trail on the banks of the river and head northwest. Navigation is easy as you’ll simply remain on the obvious path next to the river. Enjoy the water and the scenery as you pass by Mehl Foothills Park, then pass the fields near the Jewish Community Center. The path ends before the soccer club where N Dodge Boulevard crosses the river. From here, turn back and retrace your steps.
