Recoil Peak via Mosaic Trail Description

The hike to Recoil Peak via Mosaic Trail is a wonderful trail for its ease of access in Tucson and its approachable difficulty level. This route is long enough to let you enjoy being in nature, but it’s easy enough for beginners, kids, and most others to enjoy. There are connecting trails that allow you to keep hiking longer if you’d like. We especially enjoy this route at sunset.

There are no restrooms at the trailhead, so come prepared. Bring water and wear sun protection, and try to plan your hike for any time outside the heat of the day.

The hike begins at the Painted Hills Trailhead. Take Mosaic Trail to a Y-junction, where you’ll stay left. Cross the wash and take a set of easy switchbacks on the southern side of Bactrian Summit. Go straight through the junctions between this point and the base of Recoil Peal, turning north to climb the peaks. It’s a quick climb, so take some time to chill out at the top and enjoy the view.

When you’re ready, retrace your steps to the trailhead.
