The Three Pond Loop Trail is a 0.4mi hiking route in Strathcona Provincial Park that passes through a lovely stretch of forest on the way to visit several small ponds. Located along the western shore of Buttle Lake, the trail features flat and easy to navigate terrain, making it ideal for hikers of all skill levels. Combine this trail with a weekend stay in the nearby campground to make the most of your time in the park.
Getting there
To reach the parking area for the Three Pond Loop Trail from Campbell River, head northwest on BC-28 for 29.3mi and turn right to stay on the highway. After 0.6mi, turn left towards the Buttle Lake Campground. In 0.7mi, you will find the trailhead on the left.

Hiking along the Three Pond Loop Trail is a quick but fun activity that will allow you to explore the wooded shores of Buttle Lake. The trail is very well-maintained and passes through a beautiful forest that provides a pleasant atmosphere for hiking through to the ponds.
If you are completing the trail with a family of young kids, the woodland landscape will provide the perfect backdrop to make them feel like seasoned adventurers. Eventually, the trail will pass by the calm waters of the first pond on your right before looping around and passing by the second. From here, you can continue following the loop as it leads back to the trailhead next to the campground.
