Preston Falls Trail Description

Immerse yourself in the Tuolumne River Valley along the Preston Falls Hike. This awesome adventure borders on the edge of Yosemite Valley and has somehow stayed a hidden gem—we’ll take it! Hike the secluded route along the river and bushwhack along the way. Note there have been several spotting of mountain lions and reports of ticks—so it is essential to be mindful as you wander. Also, know that the path is exposed, so wear sun protection to avoid overexposure.

Embark on your adventure from the trailhead, tracking east along the Preston Falls Trail along the northern banks of the Tuolumne River. This path will undulate through the canyon as you trek, gently progressing up an incline. Enjoy the scenes of the encompassing mountains and let the sounds of the gurgling waters relax you as you wander. Along the way, there are several slow-moving pools ideal for swimming, so we encourage you to take advantage if it’s warm and time permits!

Eventually, you will reach the end of the route at Preston Falls, a small but charming cascading nestled amongst towering granite cliffs. Enjoy the scene, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
