The alpine terrain is just waiting to be explored, and the Lillian Lake Trail via Fernandez Trailhead is a great way to do that. Immerse yourself in the high country and marvel in the grandeur of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range along this trek. As the route wanders through exposed terrain and tree shade, it is important to dress in layers and check the forecast to mitigate getting caught in an altitude storm. Additionally, much of the route is rocky, so wear a sturdy pair of footwear to safeguard your ankles—you’ll thank us later. Lastly, though not necessary, the trail GPS may prove useful, especially when the terrain is snow cloaked.

Setting out from the Fernandez Trailhead, the Lillian Lake Trail via Fernandez northwest into the high country. Gradually climbing through mixed woodlands and exposed meadows, the path will eventually reach an intersection with the Lillian Lake Trail. Here, veer left onto the Lilian Lake Trail, leading you into the exposed alpine terrain. Eventually, you will pass Vanderburgh Lake, Shirley Creek, and Staniford Lake. You will be guided up the rocky ridge to Lillian Lake.

You will be granted awe-inspiring vistas of the shimmering lake bounded by the craggy granite bluffs adorned with pines from the lakeside. Revel in the beauty of the perfect postcard scenery, and when you are through marveling in the view, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
