Mount Gould Trail Description

Intrepid adventurers seeking a challenge will appreciate this route through the high country. This high-effort, high-reward boasts unparalleled vistas of the craggy Sierra Nevada Mountains, so make sure you charge your camera! Note this high-altitude climb sees extreme conditions, so dress in layers and be mindful of afternoon storms. In the winter months, a pair of microspikes or snowshoes are necessary. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

After your water bottle is filled and your shoes are laced, you are set to begin your adventure on the Mount Gould Trail. Setting out from the Onion Valley Trailhead, follow the Kearsarge Pass Trail through the mixed conifer forest and up several switchbacks. Follow the path past Gilbert Lake, Flower Lake, Heart Lake, and Big Pothole Lake before reaching Kearsarge Pass. From here, hike north along the primitive trail along the ridge up to Mount Gould.

From atop the thirteener, you will be granted dumbfounding panoramas of the craggy Sierra Nevada summits. After reveling in the alpine oasis, retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
