Hart Tree and Fallen Goliath Loop Hike Description

The Hart Tree and Fallen Goliath Loop is a remarkable adventure that exposes the best that the Redwood Grove has to offer. Get a wonderful workout in as you explore the sequoia grove adorned with a carpet of mixed-conifers and pine needles. This area sees less traffic than the Giant Forest Grove, though weekend afternoons tend to be the busiest time to explore. As you wander, be sure to be mindful of wildlife, including bears and deer. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the Redwood Saddle Trailhead, the Hart Tree and Fallen Goliath Loop travels northwardly along the Redwood Canyon Trail. Soon after you depart from the trailhead, you will reach an intersection, veer left, and you will be diverted over Redwood Creek onto the Hart Tree Trail. Admire the enormity of the sequoias, and you will pass the Cabin Tree before reaching the Hart Tree. Take a picture beneath the canopy of the monstrous tree, then continue along the path to the Fallen Goliath.

Explore the fallen tree, then intersect once again with the Redwood Creek. At this point, turn right onto the Big Springs Trail briefly, merging onto the Redwood Canyon Trail at the following junction. This route travels along the meandering creek before delivering you back to the trailhead.
