Little Baldy Trail Description

Uncover this hidden gem located in the Sequoia National Forest. This wonderful trail is one of our favorites, due to its unrivaled scenery and tranquility—so let’s keep this one between us, shall we? Enjoy the shade of the lush coniferous forest as you climb up to the exposed granite summit, which offers panoramic views of the High Sierra. There is no cell reception in this area, so best download the trail GPS before departure. Additionally, for those eager hikers exploring in the winter—microspikes are necessary! Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the Little Baldy Car Park, the footpath tracks northeastwardly away from the saddle and into the wilderness. Enjoy the shade of the looming sequoias and mixed conifers bound by lush ferns and vibrant wildflowers as you progress. Be sure to mind your footing on the uneven terrain! Eventually, the path will demand the navigation of a few switchbacks before redirecting you southeast. The further you climb, the thinner you will find the tree coverage, signaling you are near the vantage point.

From atop the rocky peak, you will be rewarded with 360-degree, panoramic vistas of the Great Western Divide and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. Revel in the beauty of the granite landscape bound by lush forestlands, then retrace your footing back down the path to the trailhead.
