First Mosquito Lake Trail Description

This wonderful trek is well worth a detour in the Sequoia National Park. This beautiful trek explores a landscape occupied by meandering streams, montane meadows, soaring crests, and crystalline lakes. Traveling to high altitudes, it is important to be mindful of extreme weather, including afternoon storms and sudden condition changes. Dress in layers and check the forecast before departure! When heading out in the winter months, be sure to pack a pair of microspikes. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Embark on your adventure along the First Mosquito Lake Hike from the Eagle-Mosquito Trailhead. Setting out from here, follow the White Chief Trail south, gradually climbing in through meadows and tree stands. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection; veer right here, and you will be diverted onto the Eagle Lake Trail. Beyond this point, the terrain becomes increasingly steep and technical, demanding careful footing and stamina.

This path will ultimately guide you to another junction; turn right here onto the Mosquito Lakes Trail. You will be led up to the mountain saddle and then down to Mosquito Lake. Admire the beauty of the crystalline pool surrounded by granite peaks and ridges. Rest and refuel before retracing your steps to the trailhead.
