Bear Hill Hike Description

Those seeking a short, easy-going outdoor adventure will enjoy this route. Boasting an enchanting ambiance, this family-friendly trail meanders beneath the shade of giant sequoias and mixed conifers. This lovely route offers a tranquil experience in the early morning and late evenings, though afternoons are usually heavily trafficked. Be mindful of wildlife as you trek, and be sure to pack your camera. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the Giant Forest Museum or the parking lot across the street, take the westernmost Bear Hill Trail off the Crescent Meadow Road. This section of the path will gently climb up the winding path to the summit of Bear Hill. Now tracking eastwardly, the path will gently undulate as you descend the eastern slope of the hill. Be sure to take the time to admire the looming sequoias that adorn the forest floor.

Eventually, the path will intersect with a seasonal creek before reaching the trail’s end. Here, turn left, and you will be diverted onto the Rim Rock Trail and then onto the Alta Trail, which will ultimately deliver you back to the trailhead.
