The Thunder Mountain, Andante, and Chimney Rock Loop is a 3.8mi moderate trail just outside of Sedona. Despite its proximity to a residential area, it’s quite enjoyable. Keep your eyes up and you’ll feel far from town. This trail is a good choice for families and beginners and it sees less traffic than many other hikes in the area. The view of Capitol Butte is great!

The Thunder Mountain, Andante, and Chimney Rock Loop might be just a few steps out of town, but it feels plenty far away. The views are unexpectedly beautiful for being so close to the city, but that’s the great thing about Sedona- you just have to look up to see the incredible natural beauty of the area.
This hike sees moderate traffic and is moderately difficult. Remember to bring lots of water if you’re hiking when it’s hot out; this trail doesn’t offer very much shade.
From the trailhead, hike up to the junction near the foot of Chimney Rock and turn right. Skirt along the base of the rock to where the loop splits. Take a right onto Andante Trail and follow the loop as it swings underneath Capitol Butte. Turn right to hike alongside the north side of Chimney Rock, following the trail as it turns south and heads back to the trailhead.
