Mount Antero via Little Browns Creek Trail Description

Though taxing, the Mount Antero via Little Browns Creek Hike may be one of the most rewarding adventures in the Sawatch Mountain Range. The trek through dense woodlands and expansive meadows will surely tire you even before you begin your climb, but fear not, as there are several dispersed campsites lining the path that provide plenty of opportunities to hunker down for the night and break this long day hike into a multi-day backpacking expedition. As the trail ascends into high elevations, it is important that you are acclimated to the altitude before your climb. Demanding stamina and preparation, this trek is not for the faint of heart, so make sure you have plenty of water, rations, and try to summit before noon to avoid a nasty afternoon storm at the summit.

Embark on your challenging, but highly rewarded journey along the Mount Antero via Little Browns Creek Trail from the Browns Creek Trailhead. From here, head west along the Wagon Loop Trail. Soon after your departure you will meet an intersection and merge onto the Little Browns Creek Trail. Enjoy the sound of gurgling water and the views of towering pines as you walk, taking some time to revel in the sights of the looming peaks as you weave along the path between forests and meadows. After a long trek on the Little Browns Creek Trail, you will confront another junction. Take the Forest Road 278B north, before turning right onto the Mount Antero/Mount White Cutoff Trail.

This path will begin guiding you up the southern slope of Mount Antero before delivering you to another intersection. At this point, you will take the Mount Antero Trail north, all the way up to the summit. From the peak, revel in the 360-degree views of the alpine wilderness and the neighboring dramatic vaulted peaks. Admire the panoramas, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
