Twin Owls Loop Trail Description

The Twin Owls Loop Trail is an awesome, family-friendly path that leads its adventurers through stimulating scenery in the Lumpy Ridge Area. Weave between the tree shade of towering pines and past exposed granite outcroppings around the base of the Twin Owls. Protruding out of the countryside, the rock sculpture is a curious sight. Revel in the grandeur of the looming granite spire and enjoy views of the mountainous landscape that encompasses you. Located within the Rocky Mountain National Park, visitors are required to purchase a park pass.

Begin your journey around the Twin Owls Loop Trail from the Gem Lake Trailhead. From here, track the Gem Lake Trail North and ascend the rocky ridge. Enjoy the ambiance of the babbling brook that runs alongside the route and the shade of the pine trees. At the intersection, you are going to want to turn left, onto the Lumpy Ridge Trail. This path will guide you along the north side of the Twin Owls. Revel in their grandeur as you hike amongst granite outcroppings. Soon, you will encounter another junction—stay left.

At this point, you will begin to descend the Lumpy Ridge Trail through sparse tree shade, back to the trailhead. As you descend the route, you will be granted great views of Colorado’s mountainous wilderness. Hike along the path until you are delivered back to the trailhead and parking lot.
