Six Lakes Hike Description

The Six Lakes Hike is sure to impress even the most stubborn of adventurers. Hike into the high-country and revel in the gorgeous scenery of the snow-capped peaks that flank the shimmering lakes. This excursion ascends into high elevations, so be prepared for chilly conditions, and check the weather prior to your hike to avoid getting caught in an afternoon storm. If you are trekking in the fall or winter, microspikes and snowshoes are imperative to navigate the snow cloaked terrain. This path is located within the Rocky Mountain National Park, so a park pass is required.

Begin your journey along the Six Lakes Hike from the Bear Lake Trailhead. Immediately, you will be granted epic vistas of Bear Lake, ringed by pine trees. From here, track the Nymph Lake Trail up to the small alpine Lake. Hike along the shores of Nymph Lake and up to Dream Lake. This lake is one of the park’s more photographed areas as the shimmering lake reveals sights of the snow-capped Hallett peak through the glacial gorge. From here, trek the Haiyaha Lake Trail to the fourth alpine lake.

At this point, merge onto the Haiyaha Cutoff Trail to the next intersection. Here, turn right onto the Glacier Gorge Trail and hike up past Glacier Falls. Ascend the route up to the final lakes. The first lake you will pass is Mills Lake, and the second is Jewel Lake. Dip your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters and rehydrate prior to commencing your descent. When you are ready, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
