Green Mountain Trail Description

Located on the western border of the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), the Green Mountain Hike is a wonderfully scenic excursion. The ambiance of the babbling creek will lull you into a state of relaxation as you hike through the verdant woodlands. The towering pine trees shade the well-maintained path and protect you from windy conditions. This idyllic trail is also very versatile. Trade your hiking boots for snowshoes in the winter months and revel in a fresh perspective of the frozen wilderness. Note that because the trail is located within the Rocky Mountain National Park, visitors are required to purchase a pass.

From the Green Mountain Trailhead, the path ventures east beneath the timberline. Trek the forested route alongside the creek. This charming trail is highly trafficked, so if you are hoping for a secluded adventure, we recommend an early morning hike. Continue along the path as it gradually ascends the further you travel into the wilderness.

Eventually you will meet the trail’s end at the Big Meadows Dispersed Campsites. This is a great spot to see wildlife, like elk and deer, grazing in the fields. When you are ready to return, head back along the path, retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
