Boy Scout Tree Trail Description

Immerse yourself in the lush green forestlands of Northern California along the Boy Scout Tree Trail. This wonderful adventure travels through an old-growth redwood forest interspersed with mixed-conifers and a diversity of flora! The unparalleled beauty of this route attracts eager explorers from all around, so expect to share the trail with like-minded adventurers! If you are seeking a more secluded experience, then head out in the early morning. Located near the coast, this trail is often foggy, and the foghorn from Crescent City can often be heard—so don’t stress!

Setting out from the trailhead, the Boy Scout Tree Trail tracks northeast into the old-growth redwood forest. Hiking deeper into the wilderness, the trees will grow in enormity—overwhelming you with their grandeur. Crossing over a footbridge and under fallen trees, you will eventually cross over Jordan Creek. Passing Boy Scout Tree, you will intersect with the Jordan Creek gain before diverting north up to Fern Falls.

Revel in the beauty of the charming cascades surging over the moss-draped canyon, hemmed by giant redwoods. Enjoy the mesmerizing sights and sounds of the Fern Falls, and when you are ready, retrace your footing back along the path back to the trailhead.
