The Loon Lake Loop is a very short hiking route to the east of Port Alberni, BC, that will lead you along the wooded shores of a tranquil lake. While out on the trail, you will experience a good variety of terrain, including forested pathways and rail tracks. With well-maintained paths, a short overall distance, and charming views, this hike is well suited for a nice family stroll with young kids.
Getting there
To get to the trailhead for the Loon Lake Loop from Port Alberni, head to the northeast for 1.8mi on the Port Alberni Highway and continue straight onto BC-4, following it for another 3.3mi. Turn left here onto Loon Lake Main and you will find the parking lot on the right in 1476ft.

Loon Lake Loop Hike Description
Hiking the Loon Lake Loop is a quick and easy experience that is popular with beginner hikers, families, and bird watchers due to the easy nature of the trail, scenic views, and chance to spot wildlife. Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way around the wooded shores of the lake in a clockwise direction while enjoying some lovely views across the calm waters of the lake. Reaching the southeast corner of the trail, you will cross over a small creek and head to the west, following along an old rail line to arrive back at the trailhead where you began the walk.
