Telegraph Pass to Pyramid Trail Description
Telegraph Pass Trail is a route that’s easy to reach and very popular. This moderate trail is used by hikers, dog walkers, and joggers. It’s suitable for families, but with a great view of the city from the top, it’s rewarding for all levels. Some of the trail is on textured concrete footing, then you’ll hike over packed dirt. This trail traverses the ridge underneath Goat Hill for awesome, wide-reaching views.
This is a point-to-point hike. If you don’t have a car shuttle or you don’t want to double the distance, you can turn back on the ridge whenever you’re feeling satisfied with your outbound journey. There are restroom facilities and water fountains at the trailhead. Although this hike isn’t very long or demanding, make sure you bring water with you and consider sun protection. We don’t recommend hiking during the heat of the day in Phoenix, even on easier trails. Because of the mixed nature of the traffic on this hike, watch out for one another and share the trail.
From the parking area, the first mile of the hike is on textured concrete as it climbs towards a junction with Desert Classic Trail. Continue on the trail past the junction, climbing gently uphill. The grade increases right before the overlook, but you won’t be on steep terrain for very long. Take a minute to appreciate the overlook before continuing through the switchbacks that lead onto the ridge to the southwest. At the fork, stay left to traverse the ridge. The route drops down off the end of the ridge and follows Pyramid Trail to the endpoint.
