Difficulty Rating:
This hike adds an extension onto the typical adventure through Peralta Canyon, taking you to Robber's Roost, a fantastic lookout point over the canyon and the desert below. You’ll likely need to rely a bit on GPS navigation to find the roost, but if you can, you’ll likely have it all to yourself. The views on the way are wonderful in their own right, too. Expect light traffic on this trail.

Peralta Canyon Trail to Robber's Roost Description
This route guide follows Peralta Canyon Trail through the canyon and adds on an extension over a saddle to a lookout point known as Robber’s Roost. This trail boasts excellent views from multiple points, and you can take in the canyon scenery before the big view opens up. Win-win. The hike through the canyon is usually much busier than the roost, so you might be able to enjoy it on your own if you’re lucky.
We recommend bringing a downloaded GPS route on this hike as the roost can be a bit challenging to find. Bring plenty of water with you and avoid hiking during the heat of the day. Remember that dogs are not allowed on this trail.
From the trailhead, you’ll take the obvious route up into the canyon. Navigation through this part of the hike is simple; continue following the canyon as it climbs steadily. The route will cross over to the other side near the top before launching into switchbacks. Once you make it up the switchbacks, look for the junction at the saddle. Stay left here to hike roughly southeast to the roost. From here, you’ll retrace your steps to the trailhead.
