Ma-Ha-Tauk Trail Description

The Ma-Ha-Tauk Trail is a medium difficulty hike in the South Mountain Preserve of Phoenix. This route is less busy than some of the other trails in the preserve, making it a nice pick on days when you don’t want to fight the crowds. It’s not the most expansive view in the park, but it’s nice to get your workout in and enjoy some fresh air.

This route sees lots of horse traffic, so watch for droppings and remember to give riders the right of way. As with all hikes in this area, bring water with you and try to avoid hiking on very hot days. Some users report using GPS navigation to help them at some poorly marked junctions.

From the trailhead, take Ma-Ha-Tauk Trail up into the hills. It veers to your left a bit, crosses over another trail, and then descends off the backside of the ridge. The trail ends at S Central, from where you’ll turn around and retrace your steps to the trailhead.
