While out walking the trail, you will enter into the cover of Shilford Wood, following its quiet pathways before looping around through Stocksfield omn the return leg. This is a great route for those who simply want to reconnect with nature and enjoy some peace and quiet outdoors.

There isn’t anything all that bad that can be said about the Stocksfield and Shilford Wood Circular Walk, other than the fact that the trails can become quite slippery after a good rainfall. If you are planning on walking the trail in these conditions, be sure to wear proper walking shoes that are waterproof.
Additionally, you should always keep your dog on a lead out of respect to other walkers in the area.
Featuring a charming forest setting and a number of intersecting paths to explore, the Stocksfield and Shilford Wood Circular Walk is a perfect route if you are hoping to spend some quality time exploring the outdoors. Terrain here is easy-to navigate as well, making this route suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Setting out from the car park, you will head to the west in order to pick up the footpath and follow it through the trees. Bearing left at the fork in 0.1mi, you will keep straight for the next 0.4mi as the trail leads you through the cover of Shilford Wood.
At the junction, turn left and continue on to the southeast for the next 0.5mi, enjoying the tranquil nature of the woodland surroundings before meeting up with a lane. Head left here and continue on until you arrive at a junction with B6309, at which point you will turn left. After 115ft, turn right along the track and follow it to the northeast, where you will eventually arrive at the edge of Ridley Mill Road.
Turning left here, you will follow alongside the winding banks of Stocksfield Burn, taking some time to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding trees on your way to meeting up with A695. Turning left here, you will pass by the Stocksfield railway station and pick up a footpath branching off to the left, following it through the woods to the southwest in order to eventually return to the car park where you began the Stocksfield and Shilford Wood Circular Walk.

Paths along this route can be quite slippery after periods of heavy rainfall, so be sure to wear proper walking footwear.
Arrive early to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the forest with less people around.
