Saint Cuthbert’s Cave Circular Walk Desctiption

A fairly short walk featuring little in the way of challenging terrain, the Saint Cuthbert’s Cave Circular will expose you to the beauty of the Northumberland countryside and allow you to visit a natural sandstone cave often associated with an historical figure.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the northeast to climb up the hillside and enter the forest. Here, you will find the overhanging sandstone rock formation known as Saint Cuthbert’s Cave, which is often tied to the 7th Century Anglo-Saxon monk of the same name.

After visiting the cave, you will make your way to the northwest across the Kyloe Hills, traversing the summit of Greensheen Hill while taking in the views of the surrounding farmland. Reaching the northwesternmost point of the route, you will head downhill and follow the path as it loops around towards the south on the return leg back to the car park.
