Once Brewed to Gilsland Walk Description

For those who want to explore the beautiful scenery and rich history along the Hadrian’s Wall Path but don’t feel like walking the longer stretches of it, the Once Brewed to Gilsland Walk will allow you to complete a small 9.4mi segment of the trail.

Setting out from the car park in Once Brewed, you will head north towards the Steel Rigg car park. From here, you can pick up the Hadrian’s Wall Path and follow it west as it visits several well preserved sections of the famous Roman fortification, as well as the Cawfields Quarry.

Continuing on to the west, you will enjoy some nice views of the picturesque Northumberland landscape, as you pass by the Walltown Quarry and the Magnae Roman Fort. Shortly after passing the ruins of Thirlwall Castle, you will cross over Tipalt Burn and continue on to the west, where you will eventually make your way into the endpoint of the walk in Gilsland.
