Northumberlandia Walk Description

Due to the unique nature of the art piece that is the focal point of the park, the Northumberlandia Walk is a popular walking route visited by a large number of tourists each year. Because of this popularity, you will definitely want to arrive early to secure parking.

While this may be a popular route, it is certainly for good reason, as the Lady of the North that is carved into the hillside is a spectacular sight to behold. At 100ft tall and a quarter of a mile long, this intricate and simultaneously larger than life carving is an amazing interactive art piece that is sure to be a hit with the entire family!

Setting out from the car park, follow the trail north as it leads into the dense cover of the Moor Plantation and past the Northumberlandia Visitor Centre. Eventually, you will arrive at a fork in the path and keep straight to reach the first viewpoint along the route that offers a stunning view of the Lady of the North’s face.

From the viewpoint, you will walk to the northeast and make your way between the bodies of water, keeping left to make your way up the head of the lady towards the highest point of the sculpture. Here, you will enjoy sweeping views of the entirety of the piece and the surrounding landscape.

After taking in the views, backtrack along the trail and pass between the ponds, keeping left now in order to loop around the outside of the park. There are a number of other paths that head back towards the sculpture that you can choose to explore if you so wish; however, this trail will simply skirt around the edge to provide a view of the Lady of the North from all angles.

Once you have completed the entire loop and taken in the manmade beauty of the sculpture, you will turn right along the trail and follow it back through the Moor Plantation on the return leg back to the car park where you started your adventure on the Northumberlandia Walk.
