Deep Cove Park Loop

The Deep Cove Park Loop is a densely forested route through the park and as such, doesn’t have many spectacular sights other than the brief view of Deep Cove along the northern portion of the trail. This short hike does make up for the lack of views with a quaint network of well-maintained and fairly technical trails for the park’s size. Due to the rocks, roots, and steps that can be found throughout the route, it is recommended to leave the stroller at home for this friendly hike. As is the case with many areas around Deep Cove, you will need to arrive early to secure parking.

As mentioned, this trail is a short jaunt through the woods with limited vantage points for scenic views; however, the Deep Cove Park Loop is a great family hike that will get the kids out exploring. The small network of trails and rocky/root-covered terrain through the dense forest will leave them feeling like an accomplished adventurer and the small size of the park will ensure that they won’t get up to too much trouble! After spending a few hours along the trail, head over to the village of Deep Cove to watch the boats come in and out of the harbour before heading home for the day.

Setting out from the parking area, look for the trailhead on the southern edge of Deep Cove Park along Raeburn Street. As you enter into the dense tree cover of the park, the trail will skirt along Parkside Creek on the eastern edge of the park. Make your way north along the rocky, root-covered path, passing through the junction in the trail on your way to the waters of Deep Cove.

Shortly after the second junction, the trail will veer left, continuing to run parallel to the water as you exit the tree cover. Along this northern edge of the park, you will be greeted with beautiful views of Deep Cove and the many boats nestled safely within its harbour. Take a few moments to explore the area around the beach, gazing out over the deep emerald green water and majestic mountain backdrop.

After taking in the sights, continue along the trail towards the kayak rental building next to the water and turn left at the trail junction just before it. Very quickly you will reach Rockcliff Road, where the trail will end. Follow the road south for 164ft to pick up the Parkside Path on your left.

Follow the trail as it re-enters the heavy tree cover and meanders toward the centre of the park. After 492ft on the trail, you will come to a junction on your right that leads south. Follow this route to continue on your journey through the dense West Coast forest. The trail will begin to veer to the southwest, drawing itself up almost parallel to Raeburn Street. As you leave the tree cover, you will reach the end of the trail where it exits near the parking area on Rockcliff Road. From here, you can either climb into your car to head home or make the short walk up to the village of Deep Cove for a quick snack at Honey Doughnuts & Goodies; a welcome reward for having completed the Deep Cove Park Loop.
