Imagine a time of folklore, witches and dragons as you walk through the quaint old village of Burley, a small but scenic spot in the New Forest. The Burley Village Walk starts at the Burley War Memorial and takes you on a circular trail around the outskirts of the village, onto footpaths through the forests and up Castle Hill Road past ancient fort ruins. Along your walk you’ll cross rivers and bridges, enjoy the scenery of the New Forest, and get great views of the Avon Valley below.
Getting there
To get to Burley, head south from Southampton on the A35 and turn left at Picket Post onto Ringwood Road which leads you into the middle of the village. The Burley Village Walk trailhead begins at the small war memorial located at The Cross. Parking is available nearby on Chapel Lane.

Burley Village Walk Description
The Burley Village Walk begins at the centre of the village, surrounded by many interesting gift shops, tea rooms and fudge shops that are worth browsing. From the Burley War Memorial the route takes you onto a footpath through the woods and down to Shappen Bottom, crossing the river and following the Southampton and Dorchester Railway.
The next part of the Burley Village Walk heads north, passing the scenic Long Pond to your left and then forking right to join Castle Hill Lane. Another right takes you through the woods and connects to Ringwood Road, which leads you back into Burley for some refreshments and sightseeing.
