Franklin Falls is a very popular destination in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest just north of the also popular Denny Creek Campground. The hike is 2.0mi and is considered easy, but it does see heavier traffic. This is a trail suitable for families with children and it is accessible in most seasons. The waterfall is beautiful and refreshing to enjoy on a hot day. Note that the road to the trailhead can be closed during winter, so we recommend checking on its status before coming in the off-season or taking the winter route.

Franklin Falls via Wagonroad Trail Description

Waterfall hikes are some of the best to enjoy in Washington, and Franklin Falls Trail is hugely popular with locals and visitors to the area alike. This simple, quick trail is a joy for families and hikers of all levels. With no difficult or technical sections and only modest elevation gain, little ones and beginners are especially likely to enjoy this trail. It does get busy in peak hours, so try coming early in the morning or later in the afternoon to enjoy a less busy trail. This is also a great option for a quick trip if you’re staying at Denny Creek Campground.

The Wagonroad Trail to Franklin Falls Trail begins from the north end of Denny Creek Campground at the signed trailhead to the right of the regular Franklin Falls trailhead (you’ll want to be right on Forest Road 58). Hike up through the cool, shaded forest on a well-maintained trail. The route eventually merges with the traditional trail to Franklin Falls.

Getting down near the falls is the most difficult part of this trail, but it’s nothing major and should be easy enough to navigate with some basic caution. Keep an eye on little ones around the falls, as the rocks can become slippery in the mist. Once you’re ready to head back, simply turn around and retrace your steps back to the campground.
