Chaos Crags Trail Description

While not particularly long, the Chaos Crags Trail possesses a fair amount of elevation incline in relation to its distance, and is therefore likely not appropriate for beginner hikers and families with young children. We also recommend wearing a good pair of hiking boots, as the terrain along the route is often uneven and rocky.

Having made it to the trailhead, follow the Chaos Crags Trail as it makes its way southeast. The terrain will begin to incline slightly as the route takes you alongside the northern shore of Manzanita Creek. After a few hundred feet, the Chaos Crags Trail will deviate from the creek shoreline and make its way northeast.

The route will cross several creeks before the elevation begins to incline sharply. Here the terrain is physically demanding, so take your time and be sure to take lots of water breaks. The Chaos Crags Trail will exit the forested section of the route and will begin to travel across a talice section where it is important you watch your footing. With the talice section completed, you will arrive at Crags Lake where you should take some time and enjoy the views before backtracking your steps towards the trailhead.
