Howtown to Glenridding Walk Description

The Howtown to Glenridding Walk is a one-way trail along the southern shores of Ullswater that will require you to make arrangements to be picked up at the end of the route; however, you can also take a scenic boat ride if you want to avoid coordinating your trip with someone else. To turn this half-day walk into a full-day adventure, start your journey in Glenridding and take the steamer east across Ullswater to kick your adventure off with a fun boat ride. This will bring you to the trailhead at the Howtown Ullswater Landing, at which point you can simply follow the trail around the lake to return to the starting point in Glenridding. This is a fun, easy, and self-sufficient way to complete this amazing Lake District trail.

Setting out from the trailhead at the Howtown Landing, follow the trail west along the edge of Ullswater and skirt around the foot of Hallin Fell while enjoying some beautiful views across the water. The charming scenery will be a constant fixture throughout this walk, so take your time as you walk along the water’s edge and enjoy the lakeside atmosphere. After crossing over Sandwick Beck, you will traverse some rugged terrain and sections of forest at the foot of Low Birk Fell before following the trail south around the tip of the lake. Here, you will pass by Side Farm Campsite and cross over Goldrill Beck before arriving at the end point of the trail in Glenridding. From here, you can either head home after a fun day of boat rides and scenic walks, or wait for your ride to pick you up and take you to your vehicle at the trailhead.
