It takes hikers and bikers from point-to-point overlooking the Athabasca River Valley. Take in some history as you pass the structural remains of a historic homestead.

Overlander Trail Description

From the Sixth Bridge picnic area, cross the road and find signs for Overlander Trail. Hike towards the Athabasca River to the main trail. You will come across what remains of a century-old historic homestead equipped with interpretive signs. After taking in some history, proceed on the main trail through the forest, gaining some elevation towards the mineral springs. You’ll know when you’re nearing the springs by the sulphuric smell in the air.

Follow the trail watching for bikers and rock climbers in the area. You’ll be able to enjoy views of the Athabasca River as you descend towards Sulphur Springs before reaching the end of the trail on Highway 16. Hopefully, you left a second vehicle here to shuttle back to the original trailhead.
