Fourth of July Mine via Arapaho Pass Trail

The Fourth of July Mine via Arapaho Pass is a popular hike in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. In the summer, this trail is highly trafficked, and the carpark is small, so arrive early to secure a spot! This beautiful trail follows the curves of the North Fork Middle Boulder Creek, intersecting with it on multiple occasions. Navigating the lush forest, you will be rewarded with sights of cascading waterfalls before the trail becomes exposed on the rearmost section near the mine. Be sure to wear layers and bring bug spray. Four legged friends are also more than welcome on this trail—just keep them on a leash!

Clearly marked, the Fourth of July Mine Trailhead is off the Fourth of July parking lot. Take the path marked Arapaho Pass Trail. As you begin walking the route will straighten, guiding you northwest. Admire the verdant green landscape prior to ascending above the timberline. Continue along the trail and stay right at the intersection. As you climb, the trail will become exposed. Soon after topping the treeline, you will encounter another junction, stay left on Arapaho Pass Trail. Follow along the rocky path until you reach the mine. Here, you will find the rusted remnants of an old mine. Take time to enjoy the mountainous view and explore! The mineshafts themselves are filled but pretty impressive, nonetheless. This is your turning point.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can extend your hike by continuing on the Arapaho Pass Trail and exploring the surrounding Indian Peaks. If you are ready to head back, turn around, heading back down the trail and retracing your steps to the parking lot. Ensure to stay right at the first junction and left at the next.
