Granite Canyon to the Tram Hike Description

A one-way hike with the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing beverage and a tram ride—what more could you ask for? The Granite Canyon to the Tram Hike offers a wonderful workout without the worry of having to preserve energy for the hike back—just make sure the tram is operating, and you arrive before closing time! Traveling into the unspoiled wilderness, it is important to be mindful of wildlife. Make sure at least one person in your party carries a can of bear spray and knows how to use it! Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Setting out from the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, find the SL Connect Trailhead and venture the route northeastwardly, ultimately connecting onto the Valley Trail. Once traveling along the Valley Trail, you will b guided along the foot of the Grand Tetons before diverting west into Granite Canyon. Now meandering along the Granite Canyon Trail, you will enjoy the scenes of the looming Tetons and the beautiful montane meadows bisected by the babbling stream. Gradually climbing through the craggy corridor, you will eventually reach an intersection with the South Fork Granite Canyon Trail. Follow this route up the walls of the canyon to the dispersed backcountry campground.

Take a break here before beginning your final push. Here, merge onto the Rendezvous Mountain Trail, navigating switchbacks up to the summit of the mountain. Admire the 360-degree panoramas from here, then enjoy a refreshment at the mountaintop restaurant or take the tram back down to the trailhead. If the tram is not operating, or you are seeking a longer hike, take the Wildflower Trail down the mountainside.
