The hike to Delta Lakes is arguably one of the most scenic routes in Grand Teton National Park. This is a challenging trail. Proper hiking footwear, lots of snacks, lots of water, and an extra layer are all essential items for your packing list. The steep and consistent climb up loose rock will leave your muscles aching and your lungs heaving, but we promise that the challenge is totally worth it.
If the climb to Delta Lake doesn’t leave you breathless, the views will. Nestled just under the Grand Teton itself, Delta Lake is a stunning turquoise basin, attracting hundreds of hikers each year. This trail is not for the faint of heart nor the inexperienced, but for those looking for a rewarding challenge, it doesn’t get better than this.
To hike to Delta Lake, begin at the Lupine Meadows Trailhead and follow the path south across Glacier Gulch Creek to a divide. At this divide, take the path on your right and make your way up the switchbacks to Delta Lake. The trail here becomes a bit unclear. Look for cairns (stacks of rocks) that mark the way.
Enjoy your time on the shores of Delta Lake. Snap a few photos and soak in the incredible beauty of this natural wonder before heading back to the trailhead the way you came.
