Explore the mouth of the famous and unassumingly beautiful Death Canyon along the Death Canyon to Patrol Cabin Hike. This amazing day hike boasts a diversity of views, including overlooks of Phelps Lake, the snow-dusted Teton Mountains, and a diversity of flora and fauna. Similar to most trails in the Grand Teton National Park, bear encounters are always a possibility. Make sure at least one person in your party has bear spray and knows how to properly deploy it. Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.
Embark on your journey along Death Canyon to Patrol Cabin Hike from the Death Canyon Trailhead and parking lot. From here, venture the Death Canyon Trailhead Spur to an intersection with the Valley Trail, and turn left here. Tracking along the Valley Trail, you will be guided west to a beautiful overlook of Phelps Lake bound by the jagged peaks of the Teton Range. Admire the scenery, then merge right onto the Death Canyon Trail at the next intersection.
This lovely path will guide you into Death Canyon along the Death Canyon Creek. Wander this route through the craggy canyon to the Patrol Cabin. Appreciate the grandeur of the encompassing canyon walls, then when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
