The Grand Canyon Bridle Trail is a 3.2mi easy hiking trail on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This is one of the only dog-friendly trails in the park, so we recommend it to hikers who want to take their pups along. For hikers without dogs who want to enjoy typical Grand Canyon views, this isn’t our first pick. The route is in the forest away from the canyon rim, so you won’t get the typical Grand Canyon view as you go. Expect moderate traffic.

Grand Canyon Bridle Trail Description

The Grand Canyon Bridle Trail is an easy hike on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This hike is unique in that it allows dogs on leash, which are prohibited in most areas of the park and on nearly all trails. If you’re coming to the North Rim with your dog, this is one hike you can do with your furry friend.

If you don’t have a dog, this hike isn’t our first pick. It’s mostly in the forest and it doesn’t follow the edge of the rim, so aside from a nice viewpoint at the end, you’ll miss out on the typical Grand Canyon views that most visitors are after.

From the trailhead, which is across from the North Rim Visitor Center, you’ll hike north alongside the road. A trail splits off to the left after the lodges, so stay right. Pass the North Rim Campground and then take a right to cross the road where the Transept Trail intersects. The route ends near the Ken Patrick Trailhead, where you’ll turn around and retrace your steps.
